Abstract

Like many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Senegal has experienced very strong growth in its student population since the year 2000, but with attendance levels at tertiary level still remaining very low. On the basis of existing data sources (statistical and qualitative), the text proposes to take stock of the evolution of educational policies, the development of the offer (public and private), and of higher education attendance. Although the development of supply has increased overall, regional inequalities remain marked and differ according to gender. And although the enrolment of girls in higher education has increased, it is still much lower than that of boys.
