L’agroécologie face aux croyances. Le cas de Mankosi en Afrique du Sud

Abstract

Agroecology is growing in popularity in developing countries, but the use of pesticides is still widespread. Understood as ?beliefs,? mental obstacles prevent the modification of this practice. In this article, we study the case of Mankosi farmers in South Africa and follow Amartya Sen?s theory of ?positional objectivity? to highlight various parameters that determine insecticide use. We suggest that the adoption of practices based more on the valorization of natural processes will not be possible without a shift in the observation positions of farmers with respect to this use.
