Abstract

The objective of this article is to see which segment of the population benefits the most from public spending on education in Côte d'Ivoire. Using the benefit incidence method with data from the 2015 household survey and national education statistics, the results show that, leaving aside primary education, the wealthiest classes of the population benefit from the largest share of public education spending in secondary, technical secondary, and higher education. Although we observe a higher participation rate in primary for the poorest, the results indicate that the participation rate is largely in favor of the richest in the other levels of education.
