Abstract

As the world population grows increasingly urbanized, the nexus of population, urbanization and development is growing critical. In developing countries, urban growth is not a response to economic progress and does not contribute to it, even if rural migrants benefit in economic terms from moving to the city. All countries, even developed, must rise to the challenge of sustainable cities, respecting their inhabitants, but also the local and global environment.
