Abstract

This research aims to contribute to a better understanding of the role of innovation dynamics of exploration and exploitation in the alignment of strategic and management choices within R&D consortia. Based on an exploratory oriented approach, this research relies on case studies of consortia founded under the European framework program for research and innovation. The findings show that the innovation dynamics promotes the consistency of collaborative innovation strategic and management choices within R&D consortia. We show that the alignment between strategy and management in the consortium setting is enabled through an intermediate link which is the innovation dynamics. Moreover, we highlight that each innovation dynamics is related to a particular type of consortium which requires specific managerial practices in terms of partners? selection, intellectual property management, task as well as performance monitoring management.
