Abstract

In spite of the measures taken to encourage students to become entrepreneurs over the last ten years, the rate of women entrepreneurs has stagnated. We sought to understand the perceptions of support people about female student entrepreneurs, in order to identify whether mentoring could be a lever to support them in their approach. Our research reveals a paradoxical perception of the characteristics of female student entrepreneurs on the part of support people. Far from being unaware of the pitfalls they face, they do not wish to mention them directly. The negative aspects of what awaits these young women entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial journey are omitted for fear of further stigmatizing them. As the objectives and language are not shared by both populations, it is important to train the support people to take gender into account and to offer support to female student entrepreneurs according to their needs and profiles.
