Analysis Of The Arms Industry And Trade With Conventional Weapons In Selected Countries Of Africa

The defence industry and trade in conventional weapons in African countries are largely influenced by the persistence of armed conflicts, the activities of terrorist organizations, illegal arms transfers, the foreign policy of developed economies, and the colonial past. All these variables affect the formation of the territorial and commodity structure of conventional arms trade, involvement in international initiatives and conventions, and the overall development of the defence industry. The aim of the article is to compare and define common and different features of conventional weapons of selected African countries by using the method of comparison, quantitative and qualitative analysis. The analysis is complemented by a summary of the international legislation for all types of conventional weapons to which individual African states are signatories and state parties.
