Abstract

The paper briefly characterizes the phenomenon of hybrid war in the context of contemporary security studies in the West. The understanding of hybrid war is vague and its current interpretation is also connected to global processes. On this basis, it is often suggestively characterized as a new phenomenon and is considered part of the development of the current theory of war. Critical views on the understanding of hybrid warfare and ways of its interpretation are highlighted. Following the Western understanding of the phenomenon, the basic aspects of the view of the problem in Russian literature are supplemented. This view is more geopolitical than military-theoretical, and although it is politically different from the Western view, its understanding is also vague.
