Bosnia And Herzegovina After October 2018 Elections

Abstract

The aim of this article is to assess the overall results of the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which took place on 7 October 2018, on the basis of an analysis of Bosnia and Herzegovina's recent past, an analysis of its system of government and an analysis of the situation in the country before the elections. These elections, mainly due to the expected accession negotiations with the European Union were probably monitored the most in the year 2018. The results should to show whether Bosnia and Herzegovina has become a functioning multi-ethnic state or is still a fragmented country whose policy is based on nationality and religion. More than twenty years after the end of the war, the country's political scene could be expected to change, but the opposite is true - the issue of nationality is still a crucial element in Bosnia and Herzegovina's policy-making. Finally, we will point out the impact of the election results over time on the approach of Bosnia and Herzegovina to EU and NATO membership. Despite the expected changes, the election results in 2018 turned out essentially the same as before.
