Suezská Kríza: Nezhody Medzi Západnými Spojencami

Abstract

Zatiaľ čo Británia a Francúzsko mobilizovali svoje sily doma aj v Stredomorí, mohli súhlasiť s americkým naliehaním na zvolávanie konferencií, ale flotily už boli rozmiestnené, stíhačky a bombardéry stáli pripravené v Líbyi, na Malte a na Cypre a výsadkári, námorná pechota a armádne útvary boli nachystané na vysadenie v Egypte. Keď Džamāl cAbdannāṣir odmietol plán osemnástich mocností a Bezpečnostná rada vyzvala na medzinárodnú kontrolu prieplavu, diplomatická zámienka na inváziu bola na svete. V tej chvíli mal Eden ísť do vojny bez Američanov, alebo pripustiť, že nechal vyslať tisíce mužov na Blízky východ na to, aby ich zasa odvolal. Predsedu vlády z tejto šlamastiky znova zachránil J. F. Dulles, ktorý vymyslel nový návrh na britsko-americkú spoluprácu proti Egyptu.
