Abstract

The size of the Swiss cooperative sector has been decreasing almost linearly since the turn of the millennium. The analysis of the cooperative founding figures from 2000 to 2012 shows that cooperatives in the energy sector, as in Germany, are experiencing a revival. While, remarkably, also agricultural and forestry cooperatives are founded again more frequently, infrastructure and financial cooperatives show a significant start-up decline.
