Abstract

Elinor Ostrom was awarded the 2009 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, which she shared with Oliver Williamson. Both are considered leading scholars in the field of economic governance and the analysis of common pool resources. Research on cooperatives in general has been heavily influenced by Ostroni and Williamson. This article surveys arguments and concepts of Ostrom’s scientific contributions which may be useful for the advancement of cooperative economic and political theories.
