Abstract

Due to financial restrictions, local authorities increasingly try to outsource public services. In this case, cooperatives can provide an appropriate framework. There are numerous examples of recently founded cooperatives which assist or even replace public local authorities in providing public services. This article discusses cooperative perspectives in the field of energy supply. It also proposes a strategy to identify opportunities and obstacles of cooperative solutions if a sustainable economy is the primary goal.
