Abstract

Cooperative firms will be successful in the future if they act according to their specific strengths. Sustainability, common goals, democratic member participation, flexible market entry and exit options are characteristic elements of cooperations. Traditionally, such firms have considerable potential to counteract or even correct market failure. Macroeconomically, they are a stabilizing factor, particularly if an economy faces increasingly rapid socio-economic changes.
