Abstract

Im Beitrag „Was ist Modern Monetary Theory?“ haben Dirk Ehnts und Maurice Höfgen (2022) in dieser Zeitschrift die derzeit viel erörterte gleichnamige Geldtheorie präsentiert. Adrian Schröder findet ihre Ausführungen nicht überzeugend. Er kritisiert den Beitrag besonders in Hinblick auf die Thesen, es gebe kein Problem der Staatsfinanzierung, die staatliche Geldschöpfung sei nur durch selbstgewählte Restriktionen begrenzt und die Verwendung von Geld gehe auf die Verpflichtung privater Akteure zurück, Steuern zu zahlen. Als fundamentalen Unterschied zwischen gängiger ökonomischer Theoriebildung und Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) arbeitet er heraus, dass Letztere die monetären Ströme analytisch von ihren realwirtschaftlichen Implikationen trennt.
