Abstract

In diesem Aufsatz gibt Erik Grimmer-Solem einen Überblick über die Geschichte des Vereins für Socialpolitik von der Zeit noch vor seiner Gründung im Jahr 1873 bis 1918. Zunächst geht er der sozialen Frage und den Impulsen nach, welche die deutsche Gesellschaft, die Universitäten, die amtliche Statistik und die „Kathedersozialisten“ für Sozialreform gaben, um die Entstehung des Vereins zu erklären. Danach analysiert und interpretiert er die Arbeitsweise und den Einfluss des Vereins auf die Sozialgesetzgebung, bespricht aber auch die wichtigsten Kontroversen, die den Verein durchrüttelten, ebenso wie die Auswirkung des Ersten Weltkriegs auf dessen Tätigkeit. Abschließend beschreibt und erläutert er die Themenfelder, die der Verein untersuchte, um deren Bedeutung für die Entwicklung der Sozialwissenschaften und Nationalökonomie einzuschätzen.
