Abstract

The paper is focused on the identification of main production differences between Czech organic and conventional farming. The aim of this paper is a quantification of differences in production capability between organic and conventional farming and a quantification of differences in influence of main factors of production in both agricultural production systems. The analyses, which were done to achieve the aim, were based on unbalanced panel data. The data was gained from 143 organic farms and 388 conventional producers, represented by Czech legal entities, in periods 2004–2008. The methodology of organic farming productiveness research was based on comparative analyses of stochastic production functions of both mentioned agriculture production systems. The production functions were specified as the random effects models and estimated by generalized method of least squares. Results of the analyses indicate the lower productivity of Czech organic farming in comparison with conventional farming and identify the differences in the usage of basic production factors as well. Pieces of knowledge introduced in this paper resulted from solution of an institutional research intention MSMT 6046070906 „Economics of resources of Czech agriculture and their efficient use in frame of multifunctional agri-food systems“.
