El efecto mediterraneidad en el desarrollo económico de Bolivia: Una aproximación empírica

Abstract

El estudio pretende estimar el efecto mediterraneidad en Bolivia, a través de la construcción empírica de un país ficticio denominado Antofagasta, el cual emula a la economía de Bolivia con la región de Antofagasta y consiguientemente con salida soberana al mar. Los resultados del efecto mediterraneidad indican que en promedio, la región de Antofagasta podría haber aportado a la economía de Bolivia un valor anual de 5.566 millones de bolivianos de 1990 (22.027 millones de bolivianos de hoy), y una tasa de crecimiento adicional promedio de 0,24 puntos porcentuales. Si tomamos en cuenta el monto acumulado desde el año 1884, en el cual Bolivia perdió la región de Antofagasta, este monto asciende a un valor total de 745.840 millones de bolivianos de 1990 (2,9 billones de bolivianos de hoy); en otras palabras, este monto constituye el efecto total de la mediterraneidad en Bolivia hasta el 2017.
