¿Éxito o fracaso de metas explícitas de inflación?: Analizando la respuesta al repunte inflacionario de 2007-2008

Abstract

A partir de 2007, el mundo experimentó un repunte de la inflación por el alza de los alimentos y combustibles. Este documento analiza empíricamente el desempeño de un conjunto seleccionado de países con y sin metas de inflación frente a este repunte controlado por factores específicos a cada país; y comprueba que aquellos que adoptaron el régimen de metas explícitas de inflación tuvieron alzas menores tanto en la inflación observada como en la inflación esperada, aunque no tuvieron la suficiente inmunidad como para evitar el alza de la inflación, probablemente debido a que el alza de la inflación redujo la credibilidad acumulada.
