Abstract

Both in the design of a stock control system and in the routine performance of this system, a computer can be used. A case study concerning stock control of fasteners destined for assembling and maintenance departments will illustrate some possibilities and limitations in the use of a computer. Particular attention will be paid to the exponential smoothing method which has for object the extrapolation of time series, such as sequences of demand figures.
