Exploring rural community place assessment through mobility and social media data in Fort Gaines, Georgia

Abstract

In community design efforts, the analysis of public stakeholders' perceptions and usage of community places can inform decisions affecting the built environment. However, accessing this information can be problematic, especially in rural areas where residents are mostly hard‐to‐reach groups. For the site analysis process for a rural town, this study implements mobile application data to explore visitation patterns and social media data to understand the perspectives of residents. Findings reveal the importance of particular community spaces which might have been overlooked through traditional approaches. The study shares how Big Data can be incorporated into site analysis to benefit underserved communities. En las iniciativas de diseño comunitario, el análisis de las percepciones y el uso de los lugares de la comunidad por las partes interesadas públicas puede informar la toma de decisiones que afecten al entorno construido. Sin embargo, el acceso a esta información puede ser problemático, sobre todo en las zonas rurales, donde los residentes son en su mayoría grupos de difícil acceso. Para el proceso de análisis de sitio de una ciudad rural, este estudio utiliza datos de aplicaciones móviles para estudiar los patrones de visitas y datos de redes sociales para comprender las perspectivas de los residentes. Los resultados revelan la importancia de determinados espacios comunitarios que podrían haberse pasado por alto con los enfoques tradicionales. El estudio muestra cómo pueden incorporarse los macrodatos al análisis de sitios para beneficiar a las comunidades desfavorecidas. コミュニティデザインの取り組みにおいては、公共の利害関係者の認識とコミュニティ施設の立地の使用法の分析により、構築環境に影響を与える決定を知ることができる。しかし、こうした情報へのアクセスは、特に住民のほとんどが遠隔地の集団である農村地域では、問題となる可能性がある。本研究では、田舎町の立地分析のプロセスにおいて、訪問パターンを探索するためにモバイルアプリのデータと、住民の視点を理解するためにソーシャルメディアデータを使用する。知見から、従来のアプローチでは見過ごされていた可能性がある特定のコミュニティスペースの重要性が明らかになった。本研究から、十分なサービスを受けていないコミュニティに利益をもたらすために、ビッグデータをどのようにサイト分析に組み込めばよいかが示された。
