An economic analysis of ‘home appliances going to the countryside’ in China

Abstract

type="main" xml:lang="es"> Este artículo explora los impactos de los electrodomésticos que van a las zonas rurales (EVZR) en un modelo de equilibrio general espacial. Los principales hallazgos fueron: (i) si los productos manufacturados están altamente diferenciados, los EVZR reducen la brecha urbano-rural de ingresos reales y mejoran el bienestar social; (ii) si existe migración rural-urbana, el cambio en el bienestar social debido a EVZR experimentará una curva en forma de U, a medida que disminuyen los costos de transporte; y (iii) cuando los productos manufacturados están altamente diferenciados, o bastante estandarizados bajo costos de transporte muy altos o muy bajos, el subsidio a los precios debería ampliarse a todos los bienes manufacturados. De lo contrario, la política óptima sería la de laissez-faire.
