Examples of Interviewer Variability Taken from Two Sample Surveys

Abstract

Most people who carry out sample surveys are aware of the fact that the results are liable to depend to some extent on the interviewers employed. It is not always possible to measure the extent of the variability between interviewers, although steps may be taken to minimise its effects. In this article Mr Gray describes some measurements of variability carried out in connection with two surveys in this country.
