The growth of understanding in information science: Towards a developmental model

Abstract

Similarities are explored between research approaches characterizing different paradigms in information science on the one hand, and different information processing styles of individual researchers on the other. Based on these similarities, a model of the way in which new knowledge is generated is proposed. The model focuses in particular on what the author describes as “research pathologies,” and ways in which the research output of information science may arguably be enhanced.
