Reason in the City? Communicative Action, Media and Urban Politics

Abstract

From a pragmatist perspective this essay suggests how media practices as transactions (in terms of content, emotion, aesthetic power and in relation to everyday practices) might contribute to a dispersed form of communicative rationality which has implications for understanding urban democracy. Résumé D'un point de vue pragmatiste, ce texte indique comment les pratiques des médias en tant que transactions (en termes de contenu, d'émotion, de force esthétique et par rapport aux pratiques quotidiennes) pourraient participer à une forme dispersée de rationalité des communications ayant des implications sur la compréhension de la démocratie urbaine.
