Estrategias de internacionalización de la banca española: comparación y características

Abstract

Las formas de expansión y la estrategia internacional de la banca son factores explicativos de los efectos económicos de su actividad. A partir de información procedente de entidades individuales, se comparan las estrategias de internacionalización de los bancos afincados en España, los Países Bajos y Estados Unidos, y se contrasta, para el caso español, si las características de riesgo, eficiencia, rentabilidad y tipología de fuentes de ingresos de los bancos difieren según el modelo de internacionalización elegido. Los resultados de esta comparación apuntan a que los bancos españoles con filiales y sucursales en el extranjero presentan mayor rentabilidad pero costes más elevados que los bancos cuya actividad exterior es principalmente transfronteriza.
