La economía del VRAEM. Diagnóstico y opciones de política

Abstract

El valle de los ríos Apurímac, Ene y Mantaro, Vraem, es un área geográfica del Perú con una economía esencialmente agropecuaria y poco diversificada, dominada por el cultivo de la hoja de coca. Según los cálculos realizados por Silva Pellegrini (2015, 47), se estima que el 34% del producto bruto interno (PBI) del total de distritos de las cinco regiones que conforman el Vraem procede de las actividades agropecuarias. El libro consta de seis capítulos. En el primero se discute el marco teórico utilizado en la investigación. En el segundo, se presenta una breve reseña histórica del Vraem; el tercer capítulo da cuenta de la estructura económica, productiva y social de la zona en estudio. El capítulo 4 corresponde al diagnóstico del crecimiento, mientras que el capítulo 5 explica las barreras al crecimiento en el Vraem. Por último, el capítulo 6 presenta las recomendaciones de política. A lo largo del texto, la variable transversal que conecta a las distintas restricciones es la rentabilidad relativa de los cultivos lícitos. Este libro, publicado en el año 2017, ha sido posible gracias al auspicio de la Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional, USAID.
