Actividades extraescolares en el interés de las niñas en la ciencia, en el marco de la política de fomento de carreras de CYT

Abstract

El objetivo del estudio es explorar las características y efectos que las actividades científicas extracurriculares tienen sobre la autoeficacia académica y las actitudes hacia la elección de una carrera en CyT. Mediante el uso de un enfoque cualitativo con un sub-componente cuantitativo, se reclutaron participantes de tres programas orientados a fortalecer el desarrollo de la cultura científica en niños y adolescentes. Así, principalmente se encontró que estos programas facilitan que las niñas descubran sus propias capacidades, habilidades e intereses. Además, se identificaron algunos factores importantes en la elección de una carrera en ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (CTIM): (i) las relaciones sociales, (ii) la situación económica familiar, (iii) las oportunidades educativas disponibles y (iv) los modelos referentes a seguir. Por su parte, el sub-componente cuantitativo mostró una diferencia significativa en la autoeficacia académica de las postulantes en comparación con las participantes del Programa 1. Asimismo, se evidenció una alta eficacia académica y actitud hacia la ciencia relativamente alta entre las participantes del Programa 2.
