¿Brechas de género en la generación de empleo? Impactos socioeconómicos de la minería en Arequipa

Abstract

La investigación explora los efectos diferenciados por género de la minería en la generación de empleo de Arequipa, así como su sostenibilidad en el tiempo. Empleando datos de Encuestas de Hogares y Censos de Población y Vivienda, se encontró que la minería favorece más a los hombres que a las mujeres en la generación de empleo. Asimismo, que los efectos en empleo se reducen con la distancia y la mayoría de generación de empleo calificado ocurre en la ciudad de Arequipa. Los resultados sugieren la importancia de las políticas de diversificación productiva y las políticas orientadas a reducir brechas de género en regiones mineras. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XIX Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2017, con el auspicio de Global Affairs Canada (GAC), el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés), la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante De la Fuente, la Superintendencia Nacional de Aduanas y de Administración Tributaria (SUNAT) y el Consorcio de Investigación Económica y Social (CIES).
