Diversificación, crecimiento y productividad: un estudio a nivel de firmas manufactureras Peruanas

Abstract

En la investigación se analiza el crecimiento y productividad de firmas manufactureras peruanas que se diversifican sobre las que no lo hacen. Utilizando la Encuesta Económica Anual (EEA) para el periodo 2009-2015 se construye un panel de datos a nivel de empresas que permita estimar, en primer lugar, la Productividad Total de Factores (PTF), así como, los indicadores de decisión y grado de diversificación. Adicionalmente, se construyó un indicador de género que permitió evaluar si las empresas que se diversifican tienen una mayor demanda de mujeres en puestos directivos. Para controlar los problemas de endogeneidad y sesgo de selección se planteó un modelo en tres etapas: (i) decisión, (ii) grado y (iii) resultados. Los resultados muestran que incrementos en el grado de diversificación de las firmas manufactureras peruanas tienen un efecto positivo y estadísticamente significativo en su crecimiento y productividad. Asimismo, se encuentra que la decisión y grado de diversificación incrementan la probabilidad de contratar mujeres en el directorio. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XIX Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2017, con el auspicio de Global Affairs Canada (GAC), el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés), la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante De la Fuente, la Superintendencia Nacional de Aduanas y de Administración Tributaria (SUNAT) y el Consorcio de Investigación Económica y Social (CIES).
