El rol de asociatividad en la participación comercial de los productores agrarios: el caso de Piura

Abstract

Usando información del IV CENAGRO para Piura, esta investigación busca expandir la literatura sobre el rol de las asociaciones en las decisiones comerciales de los productores agrarios, así como también explicar los factores que afectan su participación en asociaciones. En base a un modelo ‘aparentemente no relacionado’ Tobit, se estiman dos ecuaciones de participación comercial, y se usa un modelo Probit para explicar la participación en asociaciones. Además, el análisis considera las diferencias según tamaño de la unidad agropecuaria y sexo del productor. Los resultados muestran que pertenecer a una asociación favorece la participación comercial en el mercado exterior más no en el mercado nacional. Se encuentra también que la presencia de la pareja en el hogar incrementa la probabilidad de ser miembro de una asociación pero sólo para los productores hombres. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XVII Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2015, con el auspicio del Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) - Canada, el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante de la Fuente.
