Efectos del Programa de Transferencias Condicionadas JUNTOS en el peso al nacer de los niños

Abstract

En la presente investigación se analiza el efecto del Programa de Transferencias Condicionadas JUNTOS en la salud neonatal de niños y niñas que fueron expuestos al Programa durante la gestación. Asimismo, se explora si JUNTOS ha mejorado el cuidado de la salud prenatal de las madres gestantes. Se estiman modelos de dobles diferencias, efectos fijos por madres y variables instrumentales para determinar los efectos de JUNTOS en una serie de indicadores de salud neonatal -principalmente el peso al nacer de los niños- y de cuidado prenatal de la salud. Los datos utilizados provienen de la Encuesta Demográfica y de Salud Familiar (ENDES) del periodo 2004-2013. Los resultados sugieren que JUNTOS no ha tenido efectos en la salud neonatal pero existe cierta evidencia de una mejora en el cuidado prenatal de las madres gestantes. Debido a limitaciones de los datos, no obstante, no es posible ser concluyentes en cuanto a que JUNTOS no mejora la salud de los recién nacidos. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XV Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2013, con el auspicio del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Comercio y Desarrollo de Canadá (DFATD, por sus siglas en inglés), el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante de la Fuente.
