Causas, impactos y lecciones aprendidas sobre los conflictos socioambientales: el caso de la minería ilegal e informal en Madre de Dios

Abstract

Se encontró que la actividad minera en la zona de estudio tiene impactos significativos sobre el crecimiento económico y empleo pero también sobre la deforestación e índice de delincuencia. Se constató que las condiciones de vida de pobladores de distritos donde se realiza minería no son significativamente mejores de aquellos en donde no se realiza esta actividad, lo cual refuerza la idea que la actividad minera no está siendo beneficiosa para la población en general. También se encontró que los ingresos por minería descontados de los costos por desforestación son en promedio el doble de los ingresos por la actividad forestal, esta diferencia podría acortarse si se incorporan otros costos que genera la actividad minera y beneficios de la actividad forestal. Este estudio se desarrolló como resultado del XV Concurso Anual de Investigación CIES 2013, con el auspicio del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, Comercio y Desarrollo de Canadá (DFATD, por sus siglas en inglés), el Centro Internacional de Investigaciones para el Desarrollo (IDRC, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Fundación Manuel J. Bustamante de la Fuente.
