The workplace paradox: Findings from Gensler’s US and UK 2016 Workplace Surveys

Abstract

Gensler’s 2016 Workplace Surveys investigate the connection between workplace design, business performance, and the employee experience via two panel-based online surveys of 4,000 US office workers and 1,200 UK office workers across 11 industries. Survey questions focused on where, and how, work is happening today, and the role design plays in employee performance and experience. Data from both UK and US workers profiles how effectively the workplace supports how and where people work, how the workplace environment impacts overall employee experience, and key strategies for using workplace design and strategy to leverage the power of the whole organisation. Comparisons to a similar survey conducted in 2013 also put findings in the context of broader work and workplace trends, and identify additional opportunities to improve.
