Profile Of A Hotel Manager In The Dubrovnik And Neretva County - Empiric Research

Abstract

Scientific and professional circles show a great interest in managers because of their importance for the successful operation of companies. Quality managers are becoming the most important resource and a basis for a competitive and strategic advantages over other companies. Since the hotel industry differs considerably from other economic activities, hotel managers accordingly differ from their colleagues in other operations. Changes in hotel ownership and managerial structure lead to changes in the profile of managers employed in the hotel industry in the Dubrovnik and Neretva County. Therefore, this paper analyses the characteristics of hotel companies and hotel managers in the Dubrovnik and Neretva County, aimed at determining the profile of hotel managers in the County. An empiric research into managerial profiles was conducted with a sample of 47 managers in 32 hotel companies in the Dubrovnik and Neretva County in the period between 3 May and 21 June 2004. The purpose of this research was to define the basic characteristics of hotel companies and hotel managers in the County with the aim of improving the present situation.
