Abstract

Results of the cultures of 2,811 patients, categorized as to history of sexual exposure to gonorrhea, and existence of signs and/or symptoms of urethritis are presented in a table. The yield of 0.91% positive tests (19) of 2,079 examined having no history of exposure to gonorrhea nor signs and/or symptoms of urethritis is remarkably similar to earlier studies. As one would expect a summation effect for individuals with affirmative responses to the query of exposures to gonorrhea and presence of signs and/or symptoms of urethritis. Those with a positive history were six to 14 times more likely to have a positive culture.
