The Nexus of IoT Devices and Healthcare Level 7 (HL7)

Abstract

The healthcare industry is experiencing phenomenal changes, with a considerable increase in the use of Electronic Health Records (EHR) changing how healthcare is practiced. The technology of the Internet of Things (IoT) has opened the way for medical monitoring devices that have the potential to make considerable improvements in the quality of life for patients around the world. However, in order to achieve such benefits, these systems need to be able to communicate freely with each other. The main goal of this study is to discuss the need for interoperability, and how the Health Level 7 (HL7) interoperability standard could be the solution to bringing the benefits of these disparate systems together for the benefit of all patients.
