Abstract

// The article is devoted to early warning indicators calculated by various research institutes and central banks to receive advanced signals about upcoming changes in the economy in the short term. Such indicators help identify turning points in the dynamics of the business cycle and are based mainly on the expectations of economic agents. In contrast to official statistics, the advantage of these indicators lies in the promptness of their receipt. Early warning indicators gained importance in the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, when there was a need for indicators that heralded a recession. Currently, the significance of these indicators is increasing due to the decline in business activity due to the spreading coronavirus infection around the world. Many indicators indicate that economic activity has declined to 2008 levels. Since this decline affected the whole world, in this article we will try to compare the leading indicators of different countries and, thereby, assess how adequately they reflect the developing situation in these countries.
