Abstract

Políticas de favorecimento ao setor industrial tornaram-se mais frequentes e articuladas no período posterior a 1930. No entanto, medidas de apoio à indústria, especialmente por meio de tarifas protecionistas, foram defendidas por autoridades do Governo e postas em vigor desde os primeiros tempos do Império. Pressões de representantes da indústria sobre o Executivo e o Legislativo, nesse sentido, foram crescentemente importantes, após 1870. Pode-se dizer que o protecionismo, como doutrina e como prática, tem longa tradição na política econômica do País, assim como a tendência, por parte de industriais, de pleitear proteção e auxílio do Governo
