U.S. – China Trade Relations in the Rare Metals Market

Abstract

Research into the characteristics and the dynamics of interaction, established trade and economic ties and trade interdependencies of the two most important participants in the global rare metals market, the USA and China, is the main objective of the article. Data concerning their involvement in the export and import operations, market positions and the role in the international exchange of highly demanded rare metals procuring progress in the advanced knowledge-intensive industries is analyzed in the paper. In a number of cases, for comparisons and juxtapositions information on trade relations between the US and China with other countries is provided. The results of the study of the relationships between the leading countries in the rare metals market make it possible to identify the main trends, assess the scale and direction of transformations, and the prospects for its development.
