The Current State of Global and Russian Travel and Tourism Markets

Abstract

Since the end of the 20th century, a new era of great geographical discoveries has begun. Humans explore and discover the world through travel and tourism. World travel and tourism has become a mass phenomenon. The impact of the most important factors on international tourism at present is assessed (COVID 19, the war in Ukraine). The recent initiatives of the UNWTO are mentioned. A comparative analysis of inbound and domestic tourism markets of several countries is made. The current state of Russia’s domestic tourism market is evaluated. The increasing importance of the domestic tourism market for Russia is underlined. Its overview with the major headwinds is presented. Suggestions on how to develop Russia’s domestic tourism market in are described.
