Abstract

The article analyzes the current state of the global sawn timber market. The author reveals the fundamental factors of the current market growth and characterizes the main features of the leading markets. It is concluded that the largest sawn wood markets, which determine the general global trends, are the markets of the US and China. The impact of state regulation on world trade in timber is examined separately. The author identifies Russia’s position as a global timber exporter and assesses the prospects for the development of Russian exports of sawn timber. In the medium term, in the author’s opinion, the growth of Russian exports will be determined by the state of external markets, primarily China. In the long term, the exports of sawn timber from Russia would depend on consumption growth in the domestic market.
