Abstract

Introduction. The subject of research is the relationship between research associates and employer companies regarding labor compensation (in the context of contribution to the successful achievement of the objectives of the “Science” national project). The research objective is to provide rationale for using a practical approach to the development of a compensation plan for research associates based on an effective contract. Methods. Theoretical (analysis, synthesis, analogy) and empirical (document analysis, generalization, classification) research methods have been used to achieve the specified objective. The theoretical framework is based on the works of Russian and international authors dedicated to improving compensation plans for research associates and introducing effective contracts. The empirical data used in the study include local statutes and regulations for organizations that carry out research and development (including universities and scientific organizations), with regulatory foundations for labor rate setting and labor compensation for research associates. Results and Discussion. The study proves the importance and feasibility of improving compensation plans for research associates by creating employment contracts with research associates that specify the requirements for their competencies and minimum productivity. The study puts forward a practical approach to the development of a template for effective contracts with research associates. This includes a standardized set of minimum deliverables, which are proposed to be remunerated with a base salary. The study recommends increasing the base salary while supplementing the employment contract with a set of minimum scientific results for each position and a requirement for the employee to meet that standard. Conclusion. The implementation of the provided recommendations will ensure a fair base salary for research associates with the required competencies, thus improving the appeal of science as a field for the professional employment of skilled personnel.
