Banca y medios de comunicación en la transición española y consolidación democrática (1975-1989)

Abstract

¿Controlaron los bancos españoles, a través de la propiedad empresarial, a los medios de comunicación durante la transición? A través del análisis de 444 accionistas y/o consejeros de las principales empresas periodísticas, este artículo muestra las conexiones producidas entre el accionariado de los medios y la banca entre 1975 y 1989. Se trata de un contexto histórico relevante al abordar el proceso de democratización liberal en España, en el que los medios de comunicación recuperan la libertad normativa y la economía española abandona, progresivamente, el intervencionismo franquista. A la vez que se producen dinámicas de concentración de capital, que en el sector financiero son visibles en el grupo de los siete grandes bancos españoles, los medios de comunicación también se sumergen en esta inercia como una industria productiva más, aun en perjuicio de la pérdida de independencia en un momento tan importante como la llegada de la democracia al país.
