Abstract

As farm structure changes, so do rural towns. Farmers buy goods and services from businesses in town. When farm structure changes, so do farm purchases. Some town businesses close their doors. Others located in nearby towns pick up the farm trade that remains. The larger towns may even grow, while the smaller towns shrink. A study of the Oklahoma Panhandle (1969-84) documents the farm influence.
