Abstract

The changes in the economic strategies, management models and productive uses in the dehesa have caused very different effects regarding the state of the natural resources. The limits to the norm of intensification and use of technology in an agricultural ecosystem with strong socio-economic and natural restrictions have had as a consequence the end of a series of tasks that can have degrading effects on the natural resources and a possible change to more mature states within the ecosystem This fact takes into account the nature building process that can be found in contemporary societies. On the other hand, those same facts can be interpreted as a degradation of the productive resources. However, the social actors do not perceive as environmental problems the majority of phenomena defined as such by the specialists. The spatial specialization processes and territorial uneven development can also be observed in the dehesa. Finally, one of the main consequences of the changing process has been the strong deterioration of local knowledge
