Abstract

Using accounting data from a sample of 78 greenhouses of the Almería coastal area corresponding to the 1996/97 season, efficiency indexes are estimated for the greenhouses by means of stochastic frontier production function analysis. A final study on the relationships between efficiency and some variables related to greenhouse management, educational and training levels of the farmers, marketing ability, etc. identifies strategies that allow to increase efficiency in horticultural production in the area.
