Abstract

Study describing the evolution and importance of the forestry sector through the Goss Domestic Product (GDP) macroeconomic indicator, as well as its behavior, trend and average annual growth rates. For its economic valuation it was taken according the (INEGI), as the base year 2013 within a time horizon of 18 years which coincide with the last three presidential six year periods and its analysis was divided according classification of economic activities of the (INEGI) and the Economy Minestry in the primary activities that refer to forest use and secondary activities or transformation and/or added value. The methodology that was used to determine the growth of the period analysis was the statistical indicator of the Average Annual Growth Rate (TMCA), as well as its trend line and a comparison was made between the three previous six years and only the participation of primary activities (agricultural, livestock, forestry and fishing) in GDP.The objective of the research was to quantify growth (positive or negative) from its two perspectives: that of primary activities and that of secondary activities. The performance of the forestry sector has been favorable since during 18 years of analysis it showed growth, the secondary subsector (industrial) is the one that bears the weight of growth since it does so in 10.6 times more than the primary subsector. The subsector of primary forestry activities does not have a relevant monetary contribution in the Mexican economy as it does, which represents the subsector of the processing industry, however, the primary part plays a decisive role in the conservation of the environment and helps to capture rainwater, retains the soil and contributes to the capture of carbon from the environment and the abatement of climate change, it is a refuge for species of wild fauna and flora, among others which are not quantified in terms of contribution of money to the economy.
