Un Acercamiento A Las Competencias De La Educación Veterinaria En México Y España

This article's main purpose is to contribute to the joint understanding of the qualities and attributes of different veterinary education models and approaches in Mexico and Spain, to serve as a general reference to initiatives that seek to improve educational systems —already established or to be established—, in the veterinary profession field, specially with regard to curriculum design and development. To this end, the study focuses: first, on the content of 26 study plans —11 curricula covering the total of Spanish veterinary schools; and 15, corresponding to homologous Mexican institutions, among a total of more than 40 registered in the country—; and second, on relevant aspects to the employability of graduates coming from these educational institutions. The information and data that serve as a basis for this study were obtained through the 26 institutions' Web sites. The contributions of this article mainly result from the observation of both similarities and differences in the content of the curricula analyzed, considering that, in some way and measure, all the study plans enrich the knowledge of competences associated with veterinary education in university institutions of Mexico and Spain.
