Abstract

It was provided a questionnaire to 211 persons in the city of Guayaquil in Ecuador in order to measure and assess the social acceptance that would potentially have the development of the bio-fuel industry in the country. This study provides the mean values and standard deviation of 17 indicators measuring perceptions about the possible effects in socio-economic and environmental areas. The absence of national targets for mixing and consumption of bio-fuels in the country, allows the social acceptance of this new product exerts a key role that could even become a barrier of the launch of this industry. Also an Analysis of Correspondence was realized in order to establish the relationships between the indicators related to perceptions, socio-economic variables and the willingness to pay (WTP). We found that those who possess a high level of education (high income as well) are those who have the lowest WTP and also have a negative environmental perception, while those who are unaware of the existence and local production of these fuels have the highest WTP....Se encuestó a 211 personas en la ciudad de Guayaquil-Ecuador con el objetivo de medir y valorar la aceptación social que potencialmente tendría el desarrollo de la industria de biocombustible en el país.
